The nuclear energy industry requires a yearly investment of $80 billion so as to meet climate change objectives, as stated by the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Friday.

Dohee Hahn told a nuclear industry conference that between 10 and 20 reactors will have to be constructed each year by 2030, if the global temperature increase is to be preserved within 2 degrees. The agency predicts that total global nuclear capacity should attain 862 gigawatts by 2040, up from 376 gigawatts in 2014, in order to satisfy the targets established in the Paris agreement.
