The UK will keep unchanged its goal to curb carbon emissions by 50% across 2023-2027 against 1990 levels, a target that will be hard to meet. The Energy and Climate Change Secretary, ED Davey, said the "fourth carbon budget" set 2011 will consolidate the UK as a global leader in fighting against climate change in an affordable way.
The five-year carbon budgets have as objective put the UK on the right path to meet its legally binding long-term goal of an 80% emissions cut by 2050. [emp]
