Costa Rica ran on 100 % renewable energy for 76 straight days between June and August this year, according to a new report, demonstrating that life without fossil fuels is possible.
For the second year in a row Costa Rica (population 4.9 million) managed to generate all of its electricity needs through hydropower (~80 percent), geothermal (~13 percent), wind (~7 percent) and solar (<1 percent) for 76 straight days, bringing its 2016 total number of all-renewable days to 150.
