USA: CHP rakennusten energiansäästöön

US launches CHP accelerator scheme. The US Department of Energy has launched a programme designed to accelerate the uptake of combined heat and power (CHP) in the nation. As part of the national Climate Action Plan, the Better Buildings Initiative
aims to make commercial, public, industrial and residential buildings 20% more energy-efficient over the next decade.

Under its rubric, the new Better Buildings Combined Heat and Power for Resiliency Accelerator, announced last week, aims to boost investment in CHP projects across the country. In collaboration with states, communities, utilities and other stakeholders, the project plans to examine how resiliency planners perceive CHP, identify technology or information gaps that could be barriers to adoption, and develop CHP plans for communities. EUn tavoin (http://energiatyhmyrit.real.fi/2016/02/eun-ensimmainen-h-ja-energiadirektiivit.html) myös USA on innostumassa CHPstä. Meillä taas CHP on hätää kärsimässä edullisempien lämpöpummppujen puristuksessa.

Clean power supplied almost all of Germany’s power demand for the first time on Sunday 15.05.2016, marking a milestone for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “Energiewende” policy to boost renewables while phasing out nuclear and fossil fuels.
Solar and wind power peaked at 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, allowing renewables to supply 45.5 GW as demand was 45.8 GW, according to provisional data by Agora Energiewende, a research institute in Berlin. Power prices turned negative during several 15-minute periods yesterday, dropping as low as minus 50 euros ($57) a MWh, according to data from Epex Spot.

Countries around Europe are building increasing amounts of renewable capacity in order to reduce their carbon emissions and boost supply security. Last year Denmark’s wind farms supplied 140 percent of demand. [ren]   In 2015, the average renewable mix in Germany was 33%. Germany plans to reach 100% of renewable energy by 2050.  [emp]

Brysseli siirtyy hybridibusseihin

Brussels mobility minister Pascal Smet has announced that all of the 235 new buses that the Brussels local transport company is ordering will be hybrid buses and will be able to operate on diesel (DERV) and on electricity.

The Brussels government had wanted all the buses to operate on electricity only, but the initial response from the market revealed that it couldn’t meet this goal. Brussels is sticking to its ambition of a fully electric bus network by 2030.  [exp]

Islantiin 4.8 km lämpökaivo - lämpötila 500 ºC

Iceland-based geothermal developer HS Orka recently signed a contract for drilling of an approximately three-mile (4.8 km), high-temperature well at the Reykjanes geothermal field on the southern peninsula of Iceland. The company signed the contract with Iceland Drilling, which, according to a statement from HS Orka, will use its biggest drilling rig for the project.

HS Orka said the well is intended to be the country’s deepest and hottest geothermal well, with temperatures up to 500 degrees Celsius. Drilling operations are scheduled for the second half of this year.  [ren]

Kaupunkibulevardeille voimakasta kritiikkiä

Joukko maan johtavia asiantuntijoita esittää tämänpäiväisessä Hesarissa voimakasta ja perusteltua kritiikkiä Helsingin yleiskaavaan suunniteltuja kaupunkibulevardeja vastaan. Kaupunkimaantieteen prof Mari VATTOVAARA ei pidä suunnitelmia realistisina. Hänen mielestään Helsingin seutua pitäisi kehittää vahvemmin monikeskuksisena kokonaisuutena. ”Meillä on vaikka kuinka paljon tilaa tällä kaupunkiseudulla. Pääkaupunkiseudun maa-alasta on rakennusten alla vain 5 prosenttia. Tuntuu älylliseltä laiskuudelta tukkia Helsingin keskustan ainoita sisääntuloväyliä.” Bulevardeja Vaattovaara ei rakentaisi ollenkaan. Tästä löytyy koko juttu.

Englanti: Saat rahaa kun käytät sähköä kesällä

A dozen British firms will be paid to use power under a scheme National Grid will start next month intended at balancing the system in summer, when production is high from green energy sources such as wind and solar.  The firms will be paid 0.015 GBP/kWh (0.019 EUR/kWh) for taking part in the scheme. They will be paid an extra 0.060-0.075 GBP/kWh (0.076-0.095 EUR/kWh) if called upon to perform. In 2014 National Grid paid 10 million pounds to wind power producers to halt output when electricity demand was low to guarantee the system was not oversupplied.
Meanwhile green electricity production in Britain is increasing. It represented a record 24.7% of the nation's generation in 2015.  [emp]

San Francisco: Kaikki sähkö uusiutuvista 2021, nyt aurinkopaleelit pakollisiksi

San Francisco Board of Supervisors member Scott Wiener released a statement 19 Apr 2016 saying that the board has approved a law that will require new residential and commercial buildings to have solar panels installed on 15% of roof area. The effort will support the city’s goal to be powered completely by renewable energy by 2021.
The installation can include either solar PV or solar thermal panels and builds on an existing law that requires builders to ensure that at least 15% of roof space on new buildings be “solar ready.” [ren]

Talvivaara: Missä mennään?

Min Jan VAPAAVUORI ajoi marraskuussa 2014 Talvivaara Sotkamo Oyn konkurssiin http://energiatyhmyrit.real.fi/2014/11/talvivaara-tahallinen-konkurssi.html.
Tähän mennessä rahaa on kulunut jo 500 MEUR http://energiatyhmyrit.real.fi/2015/06/hallitus-esittaa-lisatalousarvioesityks.html.

Renewable energy generation capacity rose by 8.3 percent last year to 1,985 gigawatts worldwide, the fastest yearly rate on record, as indicated by data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on Thursday.
The strong growth was principally because of a constant drop in technology costs. Globally, capacity has increased by approximately a third over the last five years, mainly fueled by new installations of wind and solar energy. Wind power capacity increased by 17 percent, or 63 gigawatts (GW), from the previous year since the cost of onshore wind turbines decreased. Solar power capacity augmented by 37 percent, or 47 GW, because of in the price reductions of photovoltaic modules, according to IRENA's Renewables Capacity Statistics 2016. Regionally, the fastest growth in green generation capacity was in emerging countries. In Central America and the Caribbean it rose at a rate of 14.5 percent last year while capacity in Asia increased by 12.4 percent.  [emp]
